Havelock Island, Paradise of The Andaman Sea


Havelock Island is the largest and most popular island of the Indian Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is also Asia's one of the best beach with swimming elephants and unbreakable reef with white sandy beach. This island is located at 41 km northeast of the capital city Port Blair. Havelock Island is named after Sir Henry Havelock, who was a British General and also served in India. Havelock is one of the places in India, where India is promoting its Eco-Tourism. Having 6000+ population in this island, most of them are Bengali. Many of the settlers here have Bangladeshi origin who were given settlement by the Indian Government after the war between India vs Pakistan in 1971.
If you are a travel freak and want to hang out away from the city crowd and pollution, this is the best place to visit. Isolated from the mainland of India after reaching Port Blair airport, you can take ferries or private cruises to reach here. Local buses are also available here on hourly basis which connects the jetty and the villages. Helicopter services are also available here. You can also take a rented bike on which you can roam around the all places of Havelock Island.

Kalapathar Beach

Long streach of white silky sand and big black rocks, this beach got its name after the village Kalapathar. This beach is surrounded by the Kalapathar village. The name Kalapathar came from the unique big black rocks where, "Kala" means "Black" and "Pathar" means "Rock".  This beach is also at the corner most of the island. Having tropical forest on the roadside and beach on the opposite, this place is one of the place, where you can relax and hang around all day long and dip into the sea water.

Radhanagar Beach

With beautiful blue watery sea and white sandy beach, Radhanagar Beach is the most famous beach of Andaman Island. It was crowned as "Asia's best beach" and "7th best beach in the world" by Time Magazine. Beautiful beach is lined by lush forest and palm trees. Any one can lie down the beach and enjoy the sun bath and the sunset or you can go in for a quick swim.
To reach here, you can take a sea plane or Makruzz from Port Blair. Government boats are also available which connect the Havelock and Port Blair.

Elephant Beach

It is a must visit place in Andaman and Nicobar Island. From Havelock island, it takes 20 minute to reach here. With beautiful white sandy beach and world famous Coral Reef this place is a heavenly wonder. Coral reefs here start just after 1 meter dip down to the water. The rich coral reef and under water marine life will certainly make you fall in love with this place.
Adding with the nature beauty, several water sports like diving, swimming, trekking and many more will make your day. This is the ideal place to spend time with relaxing in the beach, eating foods and having a drink. While reaching to this beach you can get a view of beautiful light house.

Coral Reefs of Andaman

Andaman and Nicobar Island is the home of some spectacular marine lives. According to the record, total 560 different species of corals are found here till now. Having snorkeling and scuba diving facility, you can go deep down to the water and enjoy the beauty of the natural beauty. But it is prohibited to touch the corals as you can see there is many signage boards stating that.

Laxmanpur Beach

Located at the outer area of the Havelock Island, Laxmanpur Beach is actually located in the Neil Island. It covers a long stretch of area of Laxmanpur Village. Corals and sea shells are found at the sea front of the beach. This beach is the ideal for sun bathing and swimming. You can also enjoy the  beauty of the coral reef under the water with snorkeling. Wide beach of Laxmanpur is the ideal for a evening and morning walk and a perfect place to get a view of sunset.
