The Beauty of "Bay of Bengal", Digha

                                                                 "Come to the beach
                                                                   Where the sea is blue
                                                                   And little white waves
                                                                   Come running at you.

                                                                    A wave comes splashing,
                                                                    Over your toes.
                                                                    You just stand still
                                                                    And away it goes.

                                                                    We'll build a castle
                                                                     Down by the sea
                                                                     And look for shells
                                                                     If you'll come with me."

Digha Beach

We all grow up reading those lines but never realized the meaning of the poem until we grow up.  After growing up when we start working, all we want is to go back to our childhood. We all need to take a break from this machine life. And nothing can get better if we go for a road trip and spend few days in the bank of sea for a vacation. Last month after getting a leave from office. Long road trip, having food in the highway side restaurant, sight seeing and many more. Digha a is the place in West Bengal where we spend our vacation.
Digha is the seaside resort town, which lies in East Medinipur of West Bengal. It is the northern end of the Bay of Bengal. Digha is the most popular sea resort in West Bengal, which is preferred by travellers.

Our Journey

We started our journey from Kolkata by road. The route we take is Kolkata via Vidyasagar Setu and from Kona Expressway take NH-16 till Kolaghat. From Kolaghat we took left turn on NH-116 which took us to Nandkumar and from there right turn to the way of Digha.
We get refreshed on the way and took our lunch at Sher-E-Punjab Dhaba. The food here is awesome.

I will be sharing my experience and details of the places which i visited during my stay is Digha. We booked our hotel earlier from Kolkata in New Digha, which was very neat and clean and room service is also very nice. And to add on it food was awesome too.

New Digha Beach

Located at 2 km distance from Old Digha Beach, this places is safe for the tourists to take a dip in the sea. The beach is here also flat, so you can sit in the beach and enjoy the beauty. There is many beach side shops which serves fresh fishes and other sea foods. Children can also enjoy the Horse Riding. And you will also find people enjoying beach volley. There are places to sit with overhead shed or umbrella with rented chair.

Old Digha Beach

Old Digha Beach was previously the main attraction of Digha. But, now a days it has become crowded. And the sea over here is not safe for taking a dip. Beach side shops serve you fresh sea foods here like prawns, crabs, variety of fishes and many more. This is one of the best place to get the view of sunrise and sunset.

Shankarpur Beach

The best thing about going there with your personal car is you can visit the all possible beautiful places on your own.
Shankarpur Beach is located almost 14 km from the east part of Digha. The reflection of the morning sun while fishing boats return to the coast gives you the heavenly view. This place also contains a number of temples.

Mandarmani

One of my favourite place in Digha is Mandarmani. Red Crabs crawling around the beach, resorts at seaside and a long drivable beach will definitely make your holiday worth it.
Digha is the sea where low tide and high tide is recognizable very easily. And because of that, many of the hotel owners here had to re-built their hotels keeping more distance from the sea than before. Here, you can enjoy the experience of night time beauty of sea from your hotel. At the night time in high tide, sea water easily comes near to the resorts. Moreover all, this is the best place in Digha according to me.

Talsari Beach

Talsari beach is located close to the both Subarnarekha River and the Sea. Located at the 6 km from Digha, it is said to be the best place to visit in winter here. This place is lesser known to the people and the water is also very calm.
Situated at the Orissa-West Bengal border, Talsari Beach got it's name from the two words- "Tala" (which means Palm) and "Sari" (meaning Row). The Palm trees surrounding the place add the beauty of the beach.

Udaipur Beach

This is the solitary beach away from city crowd and just 3 km from Digha. There are few fisherman around the place who runs the stalls in the beach and provide fresh cooked fish. Recently, West Bengal Tourism runs "The Tents" over here, which is nice experience to stay. If you are a fish lover, it is the best idea to buy fishes in the morning from the fishermen.

Subarnarekha River

Located at the 12 km from Digha, Subarnarekha River flows to the Bay of Bengal. A long beach along with the Udaypur Village will take you to the  meeting point of the sea and the river. This river also flows through the three states- Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha. The beach is very beautiful to take a walk and enjoy the beauty.

Chandaneshwar Temple

Chandaneshwar Temple is famous for The Lord Shiva temple located 8 km from Digha. Many pilgrims come here during the time of "Maha Vishnu Sankranti" or "Gajan Mela". Except Lord Shiva temple, Lankeshwari Temple and Kapal Kundala Temple is also here.

In our 3 days packed schedule, we could visit this much places only. But, I will always try to return here to spend a short time holiday.

We drove back to Kolkata from there and returned to the Real World.

Thank you,
