Sundarijal, Nepal's Beautiful Water


Nepal is world's one of the most calm, peaceful and beautiful place to visit. Adding the beauty of Himalaya and some beautiful national parks, monetary and water fall it attracts tourists from all over the world. But when you got both of the trekking and beautiful water fall adding wild thrill, things can not get better than this. "Sundarijal" is the place where you will get all of the above. Located at 25 km away from Kathmandu, this tiny village is the gateway to the Shivapuri National Park and along the popular Kathmandu Valley Trekking. It is also famous for day time hiking, swimming, picnic and bike riding.
After reaching here by private car or taxi or bus, you can explore many places like beautiful waterfall, Hydropower and Water Supply Section, Shivapuri National Park and many more. If your main destination is Chisapani, it is 5-6 hour hiking from Sundarijal all the way uphill via Mulkharka.

Every year many tourists come from all around the world come here not only to witness the beauty of the water fall but to take part in many other activities like swimming and canyoning. Canyoning is one of the recommended adventure in Nepal but people are advised to take part in it with an expert due to the very strong current and water flow here. From the beauty of the surroundings and the fall, it is named as Sundarijal- Sundari (Beautiful) and Jal (Water).

Hydropower & Water Supply Station

Sundarijal Hydropower Station was commissioned in 1934 AD in a grant from British Government. It's capacity is 640kW. The pen stock and station flows are looked after by KUKL (Kathmandu Upatayaka Khanepai Limited).The main water supply of the power station is Bagmati River.

Shivapuri National Park

Sivapuri Nagarjun National Park was established in 2002. It is Nepal's ninth national park. Located at the 1 hour hiking from Sundarijal, this national park covers an area of 160 sq km.
The park includes some religious & historical sites and a popular hiking place which is also open for tourists. This area is fills with many Shiva Lingams. Many animals like Indian Leopard, Golden Jackal, Himalayan Black Bear, Jungle Cat, Himalayan Squirrel and many more were identified here. Including many species of animals, snakes; Ornithologists recorded almost 318 species of birds here. People come in groups to enjoy picnic inside of the national park.
