Air Manis Beach, The Place of Cursed Malin Kundang Stone in West Sumatra

Godless Children Malin Kudang

What do you think about this stone? Just a normal one?Look closely and use your imagination, then you will be able to see that the stone looks exactly like a man lying prostrate. The locals believe that, this stone was actually a real person named Malin Kundang.
Malin kundang was a poor man living with his poor mother. To change his fate, he decided to go to another city in which he met a rich merchant. The merchant liked Malin and got him married to his daughter. Now Malin was a rich man and lived happily with his wife.
Years later, he and his wife sailed to his hometown. Hearing this news, Malin's mother was really excited. She ran to the beach to greet her beloved and much missed son. But. instead of touching reunion between a mother and a son, Malin, who was now rich, felt ashamed to see his mother. He disallowed her. He called her insane for saying that he was her son.
The mother felt heart broken and angry, finally cursed Malin into a stone (The one that you can see in the picture).
Well, these all may be a simple myth but this has become a tourist attraction here. When the waves slam the stones, everybody can hear a voice crackle water formations such as mourning and weeping voice.

But moral of the story-- Don't be an evil child and never hurt your parents, especially your mother.

Nearby Air Manis Beach, there is a small island named Pulau Pisang Kecilis also a beautiful attraction for tourists.
